Yoga Is Union- International Yoga Day

Yogash chitta vritti nirodhah.
Tada drashtuh svarupe avasthanam. – Chapter 1, Yoga Sutra

(It means that, Yoga is the removal (nirodhah) of the fluctuations/disturbances (vritti) of the mind (chitta).

Then (tada) the (drashtuh) seer abides (avashthanam) in its own nature (svarupe), resting in its own True Nature, which is called Self-realization.) Simply put, the practice of Yoga can eliminate confusion and lead to the calm mind. This calmness allows you to discover your own direction in life.

Yoga, derived from the Sanskrit root “yuj”, meaning “to yoke” or “to bind”, is most commonly interpreted to signify “union”. Yoga’s roots can be traced back to the Indus Valley Civilization between 3000- 1500 BCE. For thousands of years, propagation of yoga was an oral tradition, making it nearly impossible to know its exact date of origin. Around 200 CE, an adept Yogic scholar named Patanjali systemized the fundamental elements of the yoga tradition to become its greatest authority. In 196 aphorisms, known as the Yoga Sutras, Patanjali provided a theoretical framework for yoga therapy and practice.

By taking YOU on an inward path- yoga becomes a transformative journey of rediscovery that makes lasting happiness possible.

Evidence-based yoga therapy

In simple terms, evidence-based yoga integrates yoga therapy based the principles laid out in Patanjali’s yoga sutras dating back to 500 B.C and  to modern heath issues.  Although the treatment of multiple disorders has been described in ancient texts,  the relevance and therapeutic effects of yoga are tested using postulates of modern science, such as time-bound and controlled trials.

Evidence-based approaches to yoga recognizes the allopathic medical definitions of diseases and disorders, correlates it with descriptions provided in Ayurvedic and Naturopathic literature and uses the yoga sutras to treat them.

The synergistic and holistic effect of yoga therapy as a mind-body practice, including physical poses (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayamas) and meditation (dharana and dhyana), has scientifically proven benefits in conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, anxiety, back pain or other metabolic disorders.

The integrated approach of yoga therapy is to harmonize and calm down the disturbances at all these levels by physical exercises, Asanas, breathing and Pranayama and of course meditation. The concept of IAYT is based on ancient yoga texts. It consists of Kriya (yogic purificatory process), Sukshma Vyayma (loosening and stretching practices), Asanas (physical postures), Pranayamas (breathing techniques), Krida Yoga (yogic games), Bhajan (devotional sessions), meditation and a healthy yogic diet to bring about a total personality transformation at physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual levels.
During a stressful scenario, stress hormones (particularly cortisol) flood our systems making our heart rate go up, our breathing gets heavier (we require more oxygen) and our blood vessels constrict. By transferring focus and attention to the body and breath, yoga helps to temper anxiety and battle stress while also releasing physical tension.

Roughly 40 million U.S. adults suffer from anxiety.  However, even those who haven’t been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder aren’t immune to experiencing stress, tension and anxiety in their everyday lives. Constantly there are a million hits on Google to find proven stress relief methods and break away from the. Stress Monster. Although taking a break from your humdrum daily routine can seem downright alluring, a holiday cannot always be a feasible option. Instead, contacting Texas Medical Concierge and signing up for our SMET workshop is as simple as ABC!

International Yoga Day

The international body, U.N. General Assembly, declared June 21 as the International Day of Yoga. India’s Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi during his maiden address to the U.N. General Assembly in New York called for observing an International Yoga Day, describing the ancient science as “India’s gift to the world”. A week ago, 177 countries co-sponsored the resolution to establish an international day of yoga. This is the highest number of co-sponsors ever for any resolution of this nature!

The date chosen is the summer solstice, i.e. June 21st. This date has both a cultural as well as a cosmic significance because it is also the longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere.

Listen to the speech of Shri. Narendra Modi at the launch of a Yoga university in Gujarat on the power of yoga to understand how yoga can transform our normal lives into a holistic spiritual lifestyle!

Telemedicine, a healthcare revolution- The future is NOW!

Telecommunication technologies are being used to change the face healthcare industry in unprecedented and impressive ways. Telemedicine is the use of telecommunications and information technology to support the delivery of healthcare despite geographical separation between the doctor and the patient!!

Down the memory lane

Telemedicine has a history that spans more than five decades. The first reference of telemedicine can be traced back to the mid 19th century. The Nebraska Psychiatric Institute started a closed circuit television in 1955 for patient care and this may very well be the first telemedicine project! Telemedicine, in its modernized avatar, was reportedly used by NASA in the 1960s as a way to monitor astronaut health on space missions. Telemedicine is an integral part of the history of the space program. At the beginning of this month, we read the fascinating story of Scientists at the Houston Methodist Research Institute receive a unique opportunity to explore telemedicine in Space! The results from this study will definitely provide futuristic options that will benefit doctors in administering drug treatment for patients remotely.

Reinventing Healthcare for the Future

Telemedicine services can be delivered using multiple technological devices, including mobile devices like phones and tablets. Significantly, telemedicine works in a way that is convenient to the patient via mobile app or even a call centre set up where trained personnel transcribe the patient’s electronic medical record and send them over to the specialist. At, Texas Medical Concierge, we offer super – specialized second opinions, medical travel services, tele – pathology and remote diagnostic services through our state-of-the-art telemedicine lounge at ITC Maurya, New Delhi. Currently, the major areas of Telemedicine include Teleradiology, Teleconsulting, Telemonitoring and Telesurgery. One of the biggest advantages Telemedicine presents in this day and age is its access to superior health care across borders. In modern times, Telemedicine from hospital to clinic, home and while on travel is no longer a technical challenge. In remote areas the use of telemedicine is a practical alternative to expensive travel, saves time and effort, bridges the distance, and the risk of delay in diagnosis and treatment. The combined effect of several decades of national and international experimentation with telecommunication technology in health care is an increasingly integrated system of synchronous (or same-time, real time) and asynchronous (store and forward, such as e-mail) technologies designed to deliver the optimal care at any given moment for any given patient.

Why Telemedicine?

why telemedicine

  • Emergency Consultation: Effectively managing chronic diseases (such as, diabetes, congestive heart failure, and obstructive pulmonary diseases) and other emergency services relies mainly on the monitoring of patient’s vital signs. Specialists rely on Telemedicine to deliver emergency care and quick consultations to their patients.
  • Faster Treatment: By diagnosing a patient’s conditions using telemedicine technology, therapy can ensue quicker. Faster treatment in turn allows for improved health outcomes and less costly treatments. Thus, reducing cost for patient transfers and other emergency expenditures.
  • Lesser Travel Time: With the help of Telemedicine, remote hospitals can provide emergency and intensive care services while having easy access to expert help. When the patient has to visit the specalist, the following factors serve as a hindrance.

1. Taking time away from work

2. Arranging day care for children

3. Travelling enormous distance to reach the specialist

4. Budget travel money for gas/travel and overnight’s (or extended) stays at the hotel.

Telemedicine addresses ALL the above problems!

  • Greater Accessibility: Beyond any doubt, Telemedicine piggybacks on technology to present to the society increased access to healthcare. Telemedicine has been used to effectively improve the delivery of healthcare services, and address the shortage of healthcare professionals, regardless of the geographic boundaries.

Texas Medical Concierge is uniquely equipped to provide the future in medical facilities

TMC telemedicine Global Medicine is now “Local”, THANKS to Telemedicine!

The future of technological solutions to evolving medicine demands that we overcome distance and the anachronistic reliance on fixed technology for patient management. Looking at the expanding role of telemedicine in the world of healthcare delivery, we can safely say, that Telemedicine is here, and here to stay!
