Smoking isn’t the only cause of lung cancer

The survival rate increases to 5 years or more by 55% if Lung Cancer is diagnosed before it metastasizes. As compared to other fatal cancers, Lung cancer has the lowest 5 year survival rate.
In high risk patients,mortality rate can be decreased upto 20% by low dose CT screening.
Lung cells continuously divide and are replaced by new and healthier cells. It is a complicated process by which number of cells present in the lungs are controlled. If this process is disrupted, the cells can grow abnormally and tumor is formed. When this tumor invades the healthy lung tissue,Cancer occurs.
Types of Lung Cancer:
1. Small Cell Lung Cancer (SCLC) – 15%
2. Non Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC)
a) Adenocarcinoma – 40%
b) Squamous Cell Lung Cancer – 30%
c) Large Cell Lung Cancer – 10%
